Summer Skincare protection goes "Green"!

There is rising concern about chemicals that are in our sunscreen. With the alarming statistics we now know what we put on our bodies enters into our system potentially affecting our health.

Growing trend is leading the savvy consumer to more natural chemical free products. Also, understanding that our diets can play an important role in helping us protect our skin from the sun is exciting news!!

Fortunately for most of us our bodies have the natural ability to protect our skin from burning and, as always, a healthy diet boosts this natural defense. Many common foods contain vitamins, biochemicals and phytonutrients that either help to directly block UV rays or trigger your body to begin the tanning process instead of burning. Mineral make-up is another great way to protect your skin naturally. Most mineral make- up lines contain natural SPF because of the raw minerals that are used. Many of these make up lines also carry products that can be used for the body as well as the face.

Lastly, tanning beds are an enormous source of skin damage especially to those under 30. Get a golden delicious tan without all the harmful effects of the sun by using a sunless tanner. Sunless tanners have come along way in recent years and now many are hydrating and provide a golden bronze...no one has to know you haven't been on vacation!

  • You can make your own sunscreen.
  • Diets rich in green tea, deep rich berries and dark leafy greens can boost your bodies ability to protect your skin against sun damage
  • Replace your old foundation with mineral make-up
  • Sunless tanners can give you a beautiful tan without the sun damage. Many Spas now provide airbrush tanning and health food stores carry products without harsh chemicals.
  • If you do stay out in the sun too long and burn Pure Lavender oil can be applied to the skin to immediately begin the repairing process. It will reduce redness and burning and lavender is a well known skin regenerator.
