If you live in the great state of Utah, you know that there are many summer staycation ideas nearby, but we think one of the most enjoyable places to visit is Midway. From hiking the beautiful mountains to swimming in the geothermal springs, there are plenty of things to do in Midway to keep your whole family entertained. Here are a few ideas for your next summer staycation.
Some of the Best Thing to Do in Midway, Utah
Splash Around at The Crater
Did you know there’s a geothermal spring in Midway where you can take the family swimming? Known as The Crater, this incredibly unique 10,000-year-old spring is surrounded by a large volcanic-shaped limestone rock. If you’re looking for things to do in Midway, Utah, The Crater definitely packs a punch. Many people are surprised to know that there are actually quite a few things you can do once you’re inside The Crater. Simply soak in the relaxing mineral water in the floating hot tub, or swim a few laps around inside.
If you’ve always wanted to try scuba diving or snorkeling, the Crater is the perfect place to start. As the only warm scuba diving destination in the continental U.S., The Crater provides a safe, comfortable place to test the waters with snorkeling or scuba diving gear. For something truly unique, sign up for a paddleboard yoga class for the ultimate relaxation.
And when it’s time to dry off, self-guided tours are available to learn more about the geology, archaeology, and history of The Crater in Utah.
Hike Till Your Heart’s Content
Tucked back behind the Wasatch Front mountains, Midway is surrounded by beautiful mountains with plenty of hiking opportunities for both beginners and those looking for more of a challenge. Here are just a few of our favorites:
- Cascade Springs – This casual trail, part of which is paved, is less than two miles long and is an excellent option for families. While on the trail, you’ll see stunning mountain views, the beautiful Cascade Springs, and maybe even some wildlife. Located just a 20-minute drive from Midway, Cascade Springs is a great hiking adventure for anyone.
- Pittsburg Lake Trail – If you’re looking for more of a challenge in the mountains, Pittsburg Lake Trail is a great option. A little over three miles long, it’ll take you out to Pittsburg Lake and back while you enjoy looking at rivers, a waterfall, and the beautiful lake. While camping and fishing are popular activities around the lake, you’ll still find solitude on this beautiful hike.
While these are just a few options, there are plenty of trails to find that are perfect for your staycation.
